Credit Hours and Related Student Study Time

Edmonds CC follows the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges’ (SBCTC) credit hour policy. When creating and maintaining the college’s curriculum, Edmonds CC ensures that courses and programs that are offered to students contain the appropriate number of contact hours and credits for the instructional content that is covered. This information is conveyed to students by way of the college’s catalog and/or course syllabi.
As a guide for students, one credit is generally earned for three hours per week of work in and out of class. For example, each hour of class is generally expected to require a minimum of two hours of work out of class. Thus, a 5-credit class represents 15 hours of work per week and 150 hours of work over a 10-week quarter. It is suggested that students use this guide when selecting courses for each quarter. |
