Washington State House Bill (SHB) 1758

Washington State House Bill (SHB) 1758 is designed to expand options for students who want to earn a high school diploma. Eligible students must have been a Running Start student or be 21 years or older and have completed an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of Technical Arts, or Associate in Applied Science-Transfer degree to be issued their high school diploma.
- An individual enrolled through Running Start who satisfactorily completes an Associate’s degree, including an Associate of Arts degree, Associate of Science degree, Associate of Technical Arts degree, or Associate in Applied Science-T degree, shall be awarded a state high school diploma from the college upon written request from the student. (These individuals are not required to complete the State Board of Education’s graduation requirements.)
- An individual, 21 years or older, who enrolls in a community or technical college for the purpose of obtaining an Associate’s degree and who satisfactorily completes an Associate of Arts degree, Associate of Science degree, Associate of Technical Arts degree, or Associate in Applied Science-T degree shall be awarded a state high school diploma from the college upon written request from the student. Individuals under this subsection are not eligible for funding provided for K-12 students. (These individuals are not required to complete the State Board of Education’s graduation requirements.)
Students applying for a diploma via SHB 1758 should also complete a graduation application for a high school diploma at the time they apply for graduation with an Associate of Arts, Associate of Technical Arts or Associate of Applied Science-T degree. Find out more information online. |
