BSTEC 206 - Introduction to Medical Records

5.0 Credits
Uses, content, interpretation, evaluation, and basic processing procedures for health records; emphasis on data versus information, structure and application of health information, data storage, media, and other aspects of the health information management system. Prerequisite: BSTEC 104 and BSTEC 130 or CIS 100.

Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Identify the functions of the HIM Department within the medical facility. [REASON]

Identify and evaluate health record data sets, sources, and collection tools. [REASON]

Identify and define terms and functions of chargemaster maintenance and MPI. [REASON]
Identify the National Healthcare Infrastructure. [REASON]
