CIS 174 - Cisco Networking IV

Fourth in a series of four courses that will prepare students for the Cisco Certified Network Associate Exam. Topics include: WAN protocols, WAN router and switch configurations including ISDN and Frame Relay, and intro to network administration. Prerequisite: CIS 172 with a minimum grade of 2.5 or equivalent experience.

Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Describe current network security threats and explain how to implement a comprehensive security policy to mitigate common threats to network devices, hosts, and applications. [COMMUNICATE]
Describe the importance, benefits, role, impact, and components of VPN technology. [COMMUNICATE]
Describe ACLs, and verify, monitor and troubleshoot ACLs in a network environment. [REASON]
Explain the basic operation of Network Address Translation (NAT) and Port Address Translation (PAT), and identify, and resolve common NAT and PAT issues. [REASON]
Configure and verify a basic WAN serial connection, a Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) connection between Cisco routers, and Frame Relay on Cisco routers. [REASON]
Explain the operation and benefits of the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and the Domain Name System (DNS), and configure, verify, and troubleshoot DHCP and DNS operations on a router. [REASON]
