CIS 271 - Linux +
5.0 Credits Provides hands on training in installation, and configuration, operation, management, basic networking, security and troubleshooting in the Linux operating system. Maps to and provides prep in CompTIA’s Linux + Certification Exam. Prerequisite: CS 125 (was CMPSC 132) with a GPA of at least 2.5 or equivalent experience.
Course Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Install Linux and configure file systems and a boot manager. [REASON]
- Manage local storage devices and file systems such as fsck, fdisk and mkfs using CLI commands. [REASON]
- Use CLI commands to: i) Create linked files ii) Change permissions iii) Manage runlevels and system initialization. [REASON]
- Identify, execute, manage and kill processes. [REASON]
- Create, modify and delete user and group accounts. [REASON]
- Configure client network services and settings and printing. [REASON]
- Configure files used to mount drives or partitions. [REASON]
- Implement security configurations and detect security breaches. [REASON]
- Create written procedures for installation, configuration, security and management. [COMMUNICATE]
- Troubleshoot errors using logs and diagnose hardware issues using Linux tools. [REASON]
- Identify and configure removable system hardware, advanced power management and mass storage. [REASON]
