CIS 292 - Cell Phone/PDA Forensics



5.0 Credits
Proper methods to acquire and process evidence from cellular phones and personal digital assistants. Acquisition and analysis of evidence from GSM, CDMA and IDEN mobile phones and SIM cards, as well as various types of PDA’s. Prerequisite: CIS 272  with a GPA of at least 3.0 or equivalent.

Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe how a cellular network and it’s protocols work. [COMMUNICATE]
  2. Describe the legal issues related to evidence from cell phones and personal digital assistants. [COMMUNICATE]
  3. Prepare cell phones and smart phone evidence for presentation. [REASON]
  4. Properly acquire and analyze evidence from GSM, CDMA, and IDEN cell phones and from Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards. [REASON]
  5. Acquire and analyze data from cell phones and PDA’s using various types of software and hardware such as: Device Seizure, SIMcon, BitPim, Secure View, IDEN Consumer Software, SmartMoto, MOBILedit! Forensic, Oxygen ll Forensic, and Nokia PC Suite. [REASON]
