HORT 236 - Nursery and Greenhouse Operations
4.0 Credits Explore the principal facets of wholesale nursery and greenhouse operation and management including spatial organization, facilities, plant production systems, and marketing. Prerequisite: Placement in BRDGE 093 or higher, HORT 102 and HORT 196 or instructor permission.
Course Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the major segments of a production nursery and greenhouse business plan. [REASON]
- Identify and describe the common types of greenhouses, nursery configurations, and factors impacting their siting and orientation. [REASON]
- Identify and describe the principal biotic and abiotic factors limiting the successful growth of greenhouse and nursery crops. [REASON]
- Describe the basic principles of crop selection, marketing, and nursery / greenhouse management. [REASON]
- Describe the principal business practices important to successful production nursery and greenhouse operation-function as part of a group. [REASON]
- Develop and implement a production plan for a nursery and a greenhouse crop. [REASON]
