OSH 220 - Industrial Hygiene
3.0 Credits Basics of industrial hygiene programs and relationship to company safety plan. Addresses chemical absorption into the body, physical/ airborne hazards; sampling techniques; how to identify/apply hazard control techniques; and using Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). Prerequisite: Chemistry or Biology requirements completed.
Course Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Explain the key elements of an industrial hygiene program and its relationship to other aspects of a company’s overall safety program. [COMMUNICATE]
- Understand the basics of toxicology including the four major ways the human body is exposure to various substances that can cause harm. [REASON]
- Identify different types of hazards (i.e. airborne, physical, etc.) and determine the appropriate monitoring and sampling techniques. [REASON]
- Locate and utilize the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) in an emergency response. [ACT]
