SHS 103 - Introduction to Human Services:CD
5.0 Credits Covers the history and importance of human services in society, the values these programs reflect; career paths knowledge and skills required for effective practice and the rewards and challenges. Prerequisite: Completion of ENGL 100 with a 2.0 or higher or placement in ENGL& 101 (was ENGL 105).
Course Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Define the scope or application of the terms Human Services and Social Welfare. [REASON]
- Identify the major categories of human service and social welfare programs in the U.S., how they are funded, and who they are intended to serve. [REASON ]
- Explain the intended purposes and functions of Human Service Programs in the U.S. [REASON]
- Describe how political ideology and social policy decisions impact human service program development. [REASON]
- Identify the major historical milestones in the development of Human Services in the U.S. and the profession. [REASON]
- Identify the foundation and specialized knowledge, skills and abilities that required to adequately perform a variety of human service roles. [REASON]
- Identify contemporary evidence based helping strategies. [REASON]
- Identify trends and challenges impacting Human Services today. [REASON]
