The prevention and intervention training plan will be the responsibility of the Vice President for Human Resources or designee to educate students, faculty, and staff on:
- Opioid and fentanyl prevention education
- Good Samaritan Law
- Administration of naloxone
Support
Outreach and support services should also be offered and made available to responders who are involved in overdose incidents.
Medication
The procurement, installation, and maintenance of naloxone and fentanyl test strip dispersement, and any associated labor hours, must be provided by the institutions of higher education at no additional expense to students.
- Free naloxone and fentanyl test strips will be available in various campus locations, and a vending machine located in the Triton Student Center in Brier Hall.
- The Safety, Security, and Emergency Preparedness Department (SSEP) will be responsible for the procurement, distribution, and tracking of naloxone and fentanyl test strips at designated campus locations.
- Medication will be stored based on the manufacturer’s recommendations.
- SSEP personnel will conduct physical inspections of all issued naloxone kits every six months to ensure the kits have not expired, are being stored according to manufacturer’s specifications, and have not been compromised.
- An initial supply of 20-40 single doses of naloxone will be provided to each designated location for distribution.
- The college will affix signage to indicate medication locations, as appropriate.
- SSEP will maintain informational cards at each free distribution location, providing clear instructions for naloxone and fentanyl test strip use, as well as general information about opioid overdose.
- SSEP will monitor the distribution locations weekly and replenish naloxone doses and test strips as needed.
Website: A dedicated webpage will provide comprehensive information about opioid overdose prevention and community events and training. This webpage will be updated and maintained by SSEP.
Posters and Brochures: Strategically placed across campus to advertise the vending machine’s location, available items, and provide informational messaging on overdose prevention.
Brochures: Available at key locations, providing more detailed information about the items offered, instructions for use (e.g., naloxone administration, fentanyl test strip usage), and resources for support.
Language Accessibility: All marketing materials will be developed in accessible language, including translation into relevant languages based on campus demographics.
