CIS 174 - Cisco Networking IV
5.0 Credits Final course mapping to the CCNA exam. Topics include hierarchical network design, PPP and frame-relay, WAN technologies, broadband solutions, IPSec and VPNs, network monitoring, enterprise network troubleshooting, borderless networking, virtualization, and collaboration in network architectures. Prerequisite CIS 173 with a minimum grade of 2.5 or equivalent experience. Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs) Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:- Describe current network security threats and explain how to implement a comprehensive security policy to mitigate common threats to network devices, hosts, and applications.
- Describe the importance, benefits, role, impact, and components of VPN technology.
- Describe ACLs, and verify, monitor and troubleshoot ACLs in a network environment.
- Explain the basic operation of Network Address Translation (NAT) and Port Address Translation (PAT), and identify, and resolve common NAT and PAT issues.
- Configure and verify a basic WAN serial connection, a Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) connection between Cisco routers, and Frame Relay on Cisco routers.
- Explain the operation and benefits of the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and the Domain Name System (DNS), and configure, verify, and troubleshoot DHCP and DNS operations on a router.
