AHE 162 - Certified Nursing Assistant-Basic Patient Care
6.0 Credits Introduction to the functional and legal role of nursing assistants on the health care team. On-campus lab sessions will provide training in all client care aspects necessary to obtain Washington state nursing assistant certification. Prerequisite AHE 110, AHE 116, BSTEC 104, BSTEC 129, HIV/AIDS, and CPR, all with a minimum grade of 2.0 or equivalent. Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs) Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the nursing assistant’s legal scope of practice and function on the health care team.
- Employ communication skills appropriate to various situations.
- Use medical terminology and abbreviations appropriately.
- Perform with accuracy and judgment in observing, recording, and sharing client data.
- Demonstrate proficiency in all skills needed for client care, as listed on skills check off sheet and in Washington Nursing Assistant Candidate Handbook.
