HORT 117 - Pruning
4.0 Credits Principles of pruning including tools, techniques, timing, and special treatment of Pacific Northwest ornamentals. Field experience is stressed, including ladder use. Students must supply their own by-pass hand pruners, folding saw, and rain gear. Be prepared to arrive and depart from field trip sites on your own. S/U grade option. Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs) Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Analyze, synthesize, and integrate information from multiple perspectives (lecture, reading, and field practice) in order to make decisions about how to appropriately prune a variety of common landscape plants in different situations.
- Work effectively within a small group to analyze a set of plants, explore different pruning options, select a pruning approach, and defend the choice.
- Demonstrate best management pruning practices and knowledge with appropriate behaviors necessary for employability in the landscape industry.
