HORT 172 - Spring Garden Practices
3.0 Credits Introduction to basic landscape and garden installation, and maintenance practices for spring shrub/tree planting, staking, turf aeration/thatching, mowing, edging, fertilizing, and more. Safe and efficient operation of equipment is stressed. S/U grade option. Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs) Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate safe practices in selection, lifting, transport, handling, and cleanup of landscape tools.
- Demonstrate and describe proper landscape planting techniques of groundcovers and herbaceous plants.
- Demonstrate and describe soil preparation and lay sod.
- Describe lawn maintenance techniques.
