EMERG 157 - Public Information Officer
2.0 Credits Provides the basic skills and resources to successfully coordinate and disseminate information to the news media and public during an emergency situation. Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs) Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- List and describe the responsibilities of a public information officer.
- Describe strategies for developing positive relations with the media and the purpose of a media guide.
- Distinguish between a news release and a media advisory.
- Discuss the basic guidelines on managing the media scene.
- Identify the basic guidelines to follow before and during an interview.
- List and describe the steps in preparing a news conference.
