IHCM 405 - Integration of Behavioral Health and Primary Care
3.0 Credits
Covers the benefits of integration ofbehavioral (mental) health into primary healthcare to improve access to mental health services and treatment of comorbid physical conditions. Includes issues related to treatment planning, reducing the stigma commonly associated with mental health disorders, medication management, and supervision and support of primary healthcare staff across the disciplines.
Prerequisite Admission to IHCM - BAS program.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Explain the rationale and need for integrating behavioral healthcare in primary care settings
- particularly in rural settings.
- Identify the behavioral health services that must be integrated into health services delivery to
- achieve success in population perspectives and develop strategies to embed them into their
- practice.
- Describe the program components that operationalize and facilitate successful primary care
- integration, and demonstrate how these elements are applied to population segments with
- differing needs for behavioral healthcare involvement.
- Integrate the guiding principles of person-centered care into programs and care plans.
