2.0 Credits Introduction to the field of dentistry, covering the roles of the dental team, legal and ethical considerations, and various dental specialties. Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs) Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Describe the members of the dental team and outline their roles and responsibilities.
2. Identify and describe the 12 dental specialties that are recognized by the National Commission on Recognition of Dental Specialties and Certifying Boards (NCRDSCB).
3. Explain the importance of preventative dentistry.
4. Describe the basic concept of bloodborne pathogens as it relates to dentistry.
5. Discuss the legal and ethical aspects of dentistry.
6. Explain the concept of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and its importance in dentistry health records.
