MFG 106 - Introduction to Maritime

Course provides broad knowledge of the maritime industry. Learn about the evolution of the maritime industry, understand various work functions and acquire knowledge of common nautical terminology. Explore ship systems such as hydraulic and propulsion.
Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs)
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify various types of vessels based on visual cues. 
  2. Explain different types of job roles and describe working conditions in maritime manufacturing. 
  3. Describe and demonstrate vocabulary specific to the maritime manufacturing industry. 
  4. Distinguish and demonstrate understanding of a variety of ship systems and how they relate to safety and performance. 
  5. Recognize basic maritime tools and equipment. 
  6. Explain manufacturing processes as they relate to work instructions and governance.
