Program Description The Landscape Design Associate in Applied Science-Transfer Degree is designed for students who want to transfer to the Bachelor of Applied Science in Administrative Management at Central Washington University (CWU). This degree will allow students to update existing knowledge and skills and/or acquire up-to-date technical and managerial skills. The degree requires students to work with a Horticulture advisor to select those courses which will help them achieve their educational and career goals. This degree requires successful completion of a minimum of 106 credits as outlined.

General Education Requirements (22.5 credits)
Communication Skills (10 credits)
OUTCOME: Communicate and interact effectively through a variety of methods appropriate to audience, context, purpose, and field/discipline.
Human Relations and Professional Development Skills (7.5 credits)
OUTCOME: Act responsibly in applying professional and academic standards associated with personal wellness; sustainable management of resources; and/or with success in educational, workplace, community, and team settings.
Quantitative Analysis/Symbolic Reasoning Skills (5 credits)
OUTCOME: Reason clearly using academic or professional modes of inquiry; using quantitative or symbolic reasoning; and/or using other discipline/field specific methods to explore and create ideas; identify information needs; process, evaluate, and use information; and recognize, analyze, and solve problems.
Cultural Diversity Skills
OUTCOME: Explore and apply multiple perspectives in order to examine cultural differences and influences; maintain effective professional/working relationships; and/or interact effectively in multicultural settings.

Distribution Requirements (10 credits)
Natural Sciences and Mathematics (5 credits)
OUTCOME: Use scientific and mathematical methods, modes of inquiry, and terminology to demonstrate knowledge, comprehension, and application of science concepts and insights.
Social Sciences (5 credits)
OUTCOME: Use social science theories and methods to reason, communicate, apply insights, solve problems, and to develop a critical understanding of the diversity and interdependence of peoples and cultures.
Program Requirements (73.5 credits)
OUTCOMES:
- Describe and demonstrate the safe and efficient use of landscape tools, equipment and supplies.
- Identify common landscape plants for the Pacific Northwest and their cultural needs.
- Compare and contrast basic theories, concepts and terminology in order to apply sustainable horticultural practices and techniques.
- Describe plant problems, diagnosis, and management options.
- Compare and contrast the variety of career options in horticulture.
- Design and develop landscape plans that incorporate an understanding of the site, the needs of the client, and aesthetic qualities.
- Communicate graphically the design development process, final landscape design, and construction details to clients and landscape professionals.
- Describe and apply basic business principles essential to the landscape industry.
Program Notes
The program code for this degree is 150V. For financial aid, advising, and other reasons, students should work with their advisor to ensure that this code is properly recorded on their academic record.
- Previously Earned Credit: To transfer horticulture or other college credits, student must request an evaluation of their college transcripts from the Enrollment Services office. This should be done during their first quarter at Edmonds CC. Students wishing to seek a waiver of credit requirements should obtain a Petition for Waiver form from the Enrollment Services office. Other curriculum modifications based on work or other special experiences should be discussed with your Horticulture advisor.
- Admission Requirements to Central Washington University’s Bachelor of Applied Science in Administrative Management Program: All students who intend to transfer to CWU should talk with a CWU advisor to review specific admission requirements. Students must have a 2.5 minimum cumulative grade point average to be considered for admission to this program. All of the courses in this degree will transfer to the CWU applied bachelor’s degree.
- Contact Enrollment Services to make an advising appointment and take the ACCUPLACER tests. Placement into BRDGE 093 or higher, as well as MATH 080 or higher is strongly recommended and may be required for some courses..

Associate in Applied Science-Transfer General Information
Program of Study Outcomes Edmonds CC’s four General Education Outcomes (Communicate, Act Responsibly, Reason, and Explore) are promoted throughout the college’s programs. Instructional programs of 45 credits or more foster learning in all four General Education Outcomes.
Student achievement is assessed in the general and program specific outcomes via the courses and course objectives that align with those outcomes. More information about program outcomes and course objectives can be found on the Using Program Requirement Sheets page.
Credit/Grade Requirements A minimum of 30 credits or one-third of the required college level (100-level or above) credits, whichever is less, must be earned at Edmonds CC. Students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in all college level courses.
Students Are Advised To:
- Plan your schedule several quarters in advance in order to accommodate courses that are offered only once or twice a year;
- Review the college catalog for required course prerequisites and include these in schedule planning;
- Communicate with an academic advisor and/or a faculty advisor; and
- At least three quarters before you plan to graduate, contact any college(s) where you have earned credits and have your official transcript(s) sent to Edmonds CC. Then, submit an Evaluation Request - Transfer Credits Form (available in Enrollment Services) to activate the process of transferring credits to Edmonds CC.
Graduation Application A completed Graduation Application form must be submitted online by the 10th day of the quarter in which the student expects to graduate. Note: Applications for summer quarter are due by the 8th day of the quarter.
Transferring to Another University or College
- Admission application deadlines vary, students must meet the deadline for the university or college to which they plan to apply for admission to transfer.
- Consultation with the appropriate department or an advisor at the intended transfer school is highly recommended.

Cultural Diversity Requirement All students earning a degree or certificate of 45 credits or more must meet a cultural diversity (CD) requirement by taking at least five (5) credits of CD courses.
