Program Description The Event Planning Associate in Applied Science-T Degree is an online program designed for students entering the event planning industry or changing careers and who are interested in earning a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management. This degree requires successful completion of a minimum of 94 credits as outlined.

Advising Note This program requirement sheet is not a substitute for meeting with an academic advisor. Meeting the requirements to graduate with an Edmonds CC certificate or degree is ultimately the responsibility of the student.

Communication Skills (5 credits)

Humanities (10 credits)

Social Sciences (5 credits)


OUTCOME: Use social science theories and methods to reason, communicate, apply insights, solve problems, and to develop a critical understanding of the diversity and interdependence of peoples and cultures.

Program Requirements (50 credits)


OUTCOMES:

  1. Develop requests for proposals (RFPs), utilize market research and budget analysis, and analyze assessment of risks through the use of critical thinking and analytical reasoning.
  2. Effectively solve problems or make recommendations using quantitative and qualitative reasoning.
  3. Effectively manage projects and events demonstrating time management and organizational skills.
  4. Apply the skills and abilities required to successfully plan, design, and produce an event.

The program code for this degree is 276W. For financial aid, advising, and other reasons, students should work with their advisor to ensure that this code is properly recorded on their academic record.

  • Students are required to maintain a minimum grade of 2.5 in all event planning and hospitality classes.
  • Courses approved for transfer from other academic institutions must have a minimum grade of 2.0. Event planning and hospitality courses approved for transfer must have a minimum grade of 2.5.
  • This AAS-T degree is a professional-technical degree with a core of general education courses commonly accepted in transfer as well as professional-technical courses. This degree is accepted at South Seattle College as a direct transfer degree into its Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Hospitality Management program.
  • The BAS in Hospitality Management program requires students to complete 1,000 hours of practical experience to graduate; 360 hours (12 credits) can be completed at Edmonds CC.
  • Students seeking to transfer to degree programs other than those specifically designed for the AAS-T should consider associate of arts or associate of science degrees, which are specifically designed for transfer to four-year colleges and universities.

*General Education Requirements Note: Quantitative Anyalysis/Symbolic Reasoning Skills Check prerequisites required for any MATH course chosen to fulfill this requirement.

**Distribution Requirements Note: Humanities Ten (10) credits in humanities are required and may be selected from the following distribution requirements list. Choices must include a minimum of two different course prefixes, and with no more than five (5) credits each of world language at the 100 level.

Associate in Applied Science-Transfer General Information


Program of Study Outcomes Edmonds CC’s four General Education Outcomes­ (Communicate, Act Responsibly, Reason, and Explore) are promoted throughout the college’s programs. Instructional programs of 45 credits or more foster learning in all four General Education Outcomes.

Student achievement is assessed in the general and program specific outcomes via the courses and course objectives that align with those outcomes. More information about program outcomes and course objectives can be found on the Using Program Requirement Sheets  page.

Credit/Grade Requirements A minimum of 30 credits or one-third of the required college level (100-level or above) credits, whichever is less, must be earned at Edmonds CC. Students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in all college level courses.

Students Are Advised To:

  • Plan your schedule several quarters in advance in order to accommodate courses that are offered only once or twice a year;
  • Review the college catalog for required course prerequisites and include these in schedule planning;
  • Communicate with an academic advisor and/or a faculty advisor; and
  • At least three quarters before you plan to graduate, contact any college(s) where you have earned credits and have your official transcript(s) sent to Edmonds CC. Then, submit an Evaluation Request - Transfer Credits Form (available in Enrollment Services) to activate the process of transferring credits to Edmonds CC.   

Graduation Application A completed Graduation Application form must be submitted online by the 10th day of the quarter in which the student expects to graduate. Note: Applications for summer quarter are due by the 8th day of the quarter.

Transferring to Another University or College

  • Admission application deadlines vary, students must meet the deadline for the university or college to which they plan to apply for admission to transfer.
  • Consultation with the appropriate department or an advisor at the intended transfer school is highly recommended.

Cultural Diversity Requirement All students earning a degree or certificate of 45 credits or more must meet a cultural diversity (CD) requirement by taking at least five (5) credits of CD courses.
