Event Planning - Associate in Applied Science-T Degree Transfer to Bachelor of Applied Science in Information Technology and Administrative Management at Central Washington University


Program Description The Event Planning Associate of Applied Science-Transfer Degree is designed for students who are interested in entering the event planning industry and want to transfer and earn a Bachelor of Applied Science degree at Central Washington University (CWU). Upon acceptance to CWU, students will have a choice of specializing in Administrative Management, Project Management, or Information Technology. This online degree will allow students to update existing knowledge and skills and/or acquire up-to-date technical and managerial skills. The degree requires students to work with an Event Planning advisor to select those courses which will help them achieve their educational and career goals. This degree requires successful completion of a minimum of 91 credits as outlined.

OUTCOME: Reason clearly using academic or professional modes of inquiry; using quantitative or symbolic reasoning; and/or using other discipline/field specific methods to explore and create ideas; identify information needs; process, evaluate, and use information; and recognize, analyze, and solve problems.

Cultural Diversity Skills


OUTCOME: Explore and apply multiple perspectives in order to examine cultural differences and influences; maintain effective professional/working relationships; and/or interact effectively in multicultural settings.

Social Sciences (5 credits)


OUTCOME: Use social science theories and methods to reason, communicate, apply insights, solve problems, and to develop a critical understanding of the diversity and interdependence of peoples and cultures.

Natural Sciences (5 credits)


Outcome: Use scientific and mathematical methods, modes of inquiry, and terminology to demonstrate knowledge, comprehension, and application of science concepts and insights.

OUTCOMES:

  1. Utilize market research and budget analysis, and analyze assessment of risks through the use of critical thinking and analytical reasoning.
  2. Effectively solve problems or make recommendations using quantitative and qualitative reasoning.
  3. Effectively manage projects and events demonstrating time management and organizational skills.
  4. Apply the skills and abilities required to successfully plan, design, and produce an event.

OUTCOME:  Develop professional and academic skills and strategies for career and college success.

The program code for this degree is MELIEAAS. For financial aid, advising, and other reasons, students should work with their advisor to ensure that this code is properly recorded on their academic record.

  • The Career and College Success Business course is a requirement and must be completed within the first two quarters. Students who have earned a certificate, degree or have completed 30 or more college-level credits with a cumulative GPA of 2. 0 or higher are exempt from taking the Career and College Success: Business course. If exempt, a course substitution of BSTEC 294 Career Management-3 credits will be required.
  • Admission Requirements to Central Washington University’s Bachelor of Applied Science in Information Technology and Administrative Management Program All students who intend to transfer to CWU should talk with a CWU advisor to review specific admission requirements. Students must have a 2.5 minimum cumulative grade point average to be considered for admission to this program. All of the courses in this degree will transfer to the CWU Applied Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Students are required to maintain a minimum grade of 2.5 in all event planning and hospitality classes.
  • Courses approved for transfer from other academic institutions must have a minimum grade of 2.0. Event planning and hospitality courses approved for transfer must have a minimum grade of 2.5.
  • High School Transition Program Students (Tech Prep, College in the High School, and Running Start) It is recommended that high school students who have earned college credit through dual credit programs meet with a college advisor.

Associate in Applied Science-Transfer General Information


Program of Study Outcomes Edmonds College’s four General Education Outcomes­ (Communicate, Act Responsibly, Reason, and Explore) are promoted throughout the college’s programs. Instructional programs of 45 credits or more foster learning in all four General Education Outcomes.

Student achievement is assessed in the general and program specific outcomes via the courses and course objectives that align with those outcomes. More information about program outcomes and course objectives can be found on the Using Program Requirement Sheets  page.

Credit/Grade Requirements A minimum of 30 credits or one-third of the required college level (100-level or above) credits, whichever is less, must be earned at Edmonds College. Students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in all college level courses.

Students Are Advised To:

  • Plan your schedule several quarters in advance in order to accommodate courses that are offered only once or twice a year;
  • Review the college catalog for required course prerequisites and include these in schedule planning;
  • Communicate with an academic advisor and/or a faculty advisor; and
  • At least three quarters before you plan to graduate, contact any college(s) where you have earned credits and have your official transcript(s) sent to Edmonds College. Then, submit an Evaluation Request - Transfer Credits Form (available in Enrollment Services) to activate the process of transferring credits to Edmonds College.   

Graduation Application A completed Graduation Application form must be submitted online by the 10th day of the quarter in which the student expects to graduate. Note: Applications for summer quarter are due by the 8th day of the quarter.

Transferring to Another University or College

  • Admission application deadlines vary, students must meet the deadline for the university or college to which they plan to apply for admission to transfer.
  • Consultation with the appropriate department or an advisor at the intended transfer school is highly recommended.

Cultural Diversity Requirement All students earning a degree or certificate of 45 credits or more must meet a cultural diversity (CD) requirement by taking at least five (5) credits of CD courses.
