See program requirement sheet.

The Global Business Certificate is designed to allow bilingual individuals with little or no prior business experience to gain some understanding of business basics so that they might more confidently assist in the conduct of business activities that cross political, economic and cultural barriers.

Credit/Grade Requirements A certificate of achievement is available upon completion of 45 credits of selected communications courses and business requirements. A candidate must have earned at least a 2.5 grade point average in the certificate program. At least 15 credits must have been received from Edmonds Community College. All candidates must demonstrate or show proof of their ability to communicate in at least two languages.

Prequalification of Language Abilities For native English speakers: Eligibility for ENGL& 101  (either by completion of a college-level composition course or by the college’s English Placement Test) and a demonstration of minimum foreign language speaking, reading, and writing abilities to the International Business adviser. This may include the candidates being interviewed by a language consultant of the advisor’s choice. For non-native English speakers: A minimum TOEFL score of 500 or eligibility for ENGL& 101  (achieved either by completion of a college-level composition course or by the college’s English Placement Test).

Cultural Diversity Requirement All students earning degrees and certificates of 45 credits or more must meet a cultural diversity (CD) requirement by completing courses marked as “CD” on the requirement sheet and/or “Meets Cultural Diversity Requirement” in the quarterly class schedule. Those courses may also be used to fulfill other requirements of the degree or certificate.

Graduation Application A completed Graduation Application form must be submitted to Enrollment Services by the 10th day of the quarter in which the student expects to graduate. Forms are available online or at Enrollment Services located in Lynnwood Hall.

Students are advised to:

  • Plan their schedule several quarters in advance in order to accommodate courses that are offered only one or twice a year,
  • Review the college catalog for required course prerequisites and include these in schedule planning,
  • Check plans with the appropriate faculty adviser, and
  • Request written approval for modifications of the approved curriculum from the registration office on a Petition for Waiver form.
