Computers, Electronics, and Networks - Robotics and Electronics Technology Associate of Technical Arts Degree

The Robotics and Electronics Associate of Technical Arts (ATA) degree program trains students to enter the job market as Electronics Technicians, Electromechanical Technicians, Field Service Technicians, and Manufacturing Technicians. The training is generic and is applicable to many fields such as Aerospace, Electronics Manufacturing, Medical Equipment, and Telecommunications. This program trains students in electronic circuit analysis, functional testing and troubleshooting of complex linear, digital, and microprocessor/microcontroller based systems. This training makes extensive use of practical, hands on learning. Whenever possible, we model real-world applications so our graduates are prepared for the work they will find.

This program takes two academic years to complete. Students typically enter in fall quarter unless they have prior electronics training. Students should have taken high school algebra, have strong reading skills, and an aptitude for solving technical problems. Students who complete just the first year of this program are eligible for the Basic Electronics Certificate .

Credit/Grade Requirements This ATA degree is awarded upon a student’s completion of a minimum of 90 credits of Program Requirements and Recommended Electives as outlined. A minimum of 30 credits or one-third, whichever is less, of the required credits must have been received from Edmonds Community College. Students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0.

Cultural Diversity Requirement All students earning degrees and certificates of 45 credits or more must meet a cultural diversity (CD) requirement by completing courses marked as “CD” on the requirement sheet and/or “Meets Cultural Diversity Requirement” in the quarterly class schedule. Those courses may also be used to fulfill other requirements of the degree or certificate.

Graduation Application A completed Graduation Application form must be submitted to Enrollment Services by the 10th day of the quarter in which the student expects to graduate. Forms are available online or at Enrollment Services located in Lynnwood Hall.

High School Transition Program Students (Tech Prep, College in the High School, and Running Start) It is recommended that high school students who have earned college credit through dual credit programs meet with a college adviser.

CWU Transfer This ATA degree transfers directly to Central Washington University’s Bachelors in Information Technology and Administrative Management on the Edmonds Community College campus. Students must complete specific requirements for English, math, and logic. For more information, visit CWU BAS-ITAM or contact the CWU adviser at linklett@cwu.edu.

Students are advised to:

  • Plan their schedule several quarters in advance in order to accommodate courses that are offered only once or twice a year,
  • Review the college catalog for required course prerequisites and include these in schedule planning, and
  • Communicate with a faculty adviser.
