NURS 114 - Concepts of Altered States-Pathophysiology
3.0 Credits Introduction to the human body’s physiologic responses to complex health disturbances in body systems and at a cellular level. Emphasis on application of scientific knowledge to the nursing process. Prerequisite: Instructor permission. Co-requisites: NURS 115, NURS 118.
Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs) Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Define the basic concepts of pathophysiology. [REASON]
- Differentiate between normal physiology and pathophysiologic processes. [REASON]
- Identify and discuss risk factors, behaviors, and cultural predispositions that contribute to alterations in health. [EXPLORE]
- Describe the nurses’ role in disease prevention and health maintenance. [REASON]
- Using correct medical terminology, identify and discuss risk factors, etiology, and elements of pathophysiology of: regulation and control, oxygenation and circulation, elimination and nutrition, protection and defenses. [REASON]
- Differentiate between stable and unstable pathophysiologic states. [REASON]
- Discuss the nurses’ role in communicating and documenting changes in client condition in common disease states. [COMMUNICATE]
