NURS 123 - Health Assessment
3.0 Credits Introduction to client assessment techniques with emphasis on wellness throughout the life span. Teaches systems approach for obtaining a health history/performing a physical exam, use of nursing process. Lab practice for assessment skills. Prerequisite: NURS 114, NURS 115, NURS 118. Co-requisite: NURS 124, NURS 125. Permit code required.
Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs) Upon successful completion of this course, student will be able to:
- Demonstrate the use of effective communication techniques and interview skills to obtain a health history. [COMMUNICATE]
- Employ methods and techniques used in physical examination correctly and efficiently. [ACT]
- Use diagnostic equipment safely and correctly. [ACT]
- Conduct a complete head to toe physical exam on a well adult. [ACT]
- Recognize abnormal findings and age related changes in the physical exam. [REASON]
- Organize and document data legibly and efficiently using correct medical terminology. [REASON]
- Apply critical thinking skills to analyze client/case study data and identify nursing diagnoses. [REASON]
- Use the nursing process at a beginning level to develop a plan of care for clients from case studies. [REASON]
