AHE 192 - Intro to Central Sterile Processing
2.0 Credits Introduces concepts, processes, skills, and standards of sterile processing. Outlines the role and responsibilities of the sterile processing technician and provides an overview of departmental organization, workflow, and communication essentials. Prerequisite AHE 110, AHE 116, and BSTEC 104. Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs) Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Explain the role and various functions of the Central Sterile Processing department and describe the importance of workflow within that department.
- Explain the role and responsibilities of the Central Sterile Processing Technician.
- Identify the health and safety regulations, standards, and guidelines that apply to the processing of medical devices and instrumentation.
- Identify the federal and state regulatory agencies that have jurisdiction over processing in health care facilities.
- Identify and describe methods of quality assurance and inventory control.
