ENGR 121 - Introduction to Engineering 2: Design



5.0 Credits
An introductory engineering course that explores the role of creativity, teamwork, and communication in promoting innovative engineering design utilizing MATLAB. Students develop their knowledge and skills in all three areas through a series of hands on projects and reflective activities.
Prerequisite ENGL 099 or placement in ENGL& 101; MATH 097.
Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs)
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Define the engineering problem solving process.
  2. Describe the importance of and the role of innovation and creativity in solving problems.
  3. Collaborate with team members in situations requiring creative problem solving.
  4. Describe how various technical disciplines contribute to the solution of complex problems.
  5. Perform computations and generate plots using user-defined and built-in functions in MATLAB.
  6. Perform operations on data sets using matrix operations.
  7. Write commented MATLAB scripts to execute computational tasks.
  8. Design embedded electronic circuits and program microcontrollers to operate them.
  9. Design, assemble, and program a robot to complete a task.
