Improves reading comprehension, writing, and discussion skills for academic success and general educational needs. Covers summarizing and paragraph writing that reflects a basic command of English grammar and sentence skills. S/U grade option.
Prerequisite Orientation and advising are required before taking this course.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Summarize the claims, concepts, and evidence of a text.
Cite specific evidence to support accurate inferences drawn from a range of texts, including nonfiction, literary, quantitative, and visual texts.
Analyze the structure of texts, including how major patterns of organization are used to achieve an author’s purpose.
Plan, develop, revise, and edit summary and response paragraphs.
