PREP 087 - Bridges to College Math
5.0 Credits Students learn contextualized math skills in Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry. Topics include building and interpreting functions (linear, quadratic, and exponential); writing, solving, and reasoning with equations and inequalities; summarizing, representing, and interpreting data; and analyzing complex number systems, polynomials, statistics, probability, and logarithms. The course curriculum emphasizes modeling with mathematics and the Common Core State Standards for Mathematical Practice (was ABE 087). S/U grade option. Prerequisite Orientation and advising are required before taking this course. Successful completion of high school Algebra 1 or advisor placement. Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs) Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Write expressions and use units to solve systems of equations.
- Represent relationships and solve equations and inequalities graphically.
- Interpret, summarize, and represent linear models and solve problems involving slope-intercept methods.
- Build a function and use function notation that models a relationship between two variables.
- Perform arithmetic operations on polynomials and rational expressions.
- Construct and compare quadratic and exponential models using logarithms or technology.
- Make inferences and justify conclusions on statistical data from random processes, surveys, models, and studies.
