AENGL 88 - Speaking and Listening Preparation for College
5.00 Credits
For students who are learning English as an additional language and want to improve their advanced speaking and listening skills, including group discussion practice, academic vocabulary, comprehension of spoken formal and informal English, and short speeches or presentations. Placement in AENGL 87 or ELA 87 or by advisor.
Prerequisite Prerequisite: Placement in AENGL 87 or ELA 87 or by advisor.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Show comprehension of spoken formal and informal English at an advanced level, including strategies for decoding fast English.
- Demonstrate passive understanding of target vocabulary while listening and active use of target vocabulary in conversations.
- Apply effective conversational strategies to demonstrate comprehension of and successful engagement in English small group discussions.
- Plan, develop, and present one or more short speeches/presentations.
