AHE 117 - Cardiac Monitor Technician
Course Description Provides specialized training in cardiac monitoring and telemetry, focusing on recognizing and responding to both lethal and nonlethal rhythms in hospital settings. Students will learn to interpret rhythm strips and communicate critical findings for patient care. The course covers monitor technician responsibilities, documentation standards, and professional roles within the telemetry team.

Prerequisite Concurrent or prior enrollment in AHE 112.
Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs) Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Explain the use of cardiac monitoring/telemetry in patient assessment and its role in real-time clinical decision-making.
- Accurately measure and interpret key cardiac intervals, including PR, QRS, QT, and RR intervals, on cardiac monitoring tracings.
- Interpret and analyze cardiac rhythms by differentiating sinus rhythm (SR), atrial fibrillation (A-Fib), and other basic arrhythmias such as sinus bradycardia, sinus tachycardia, and atrial flutter.
- Identify extreme or less common cardiac rhythms and know when these require immediate notification or intervention.
- Demonstrate proper documentation procedures and communication responsibilities within the cardiac monitoring team.
