Computer Information Systems - Web Application and Cloud Developer Associate in Applied Science-T Degree

Program Description This broad-based and comprehensive curriculum teaches the skills students need to enter a wide range of web development and design careers. The curriculum emphasizes a cross-discipline approach to both the current and emerging technologies being used on the internet and teaches students how to create cutting-edge websites that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. This degree will help individuals prepare for employment in web development and administration, web programming, and Cloud application development. All students will create a website that will be showcased on the CIS department site. This degree requires successful completion of a minimum of 95 credits as outlined.

Communication Skills (10 credits)

Cultural Diversity Skills


OUTCOME: Explore and apply multiple perspectives in order to examine cultural differences and influences; maintain effective professional/working relationships; and/or interact effectively in multicultural settings.

Natural Sciences and Mathematics (5 credits)


OUTCOME: Use scientific and mathematical methods, modes of inquiry, and terminology to demonstrate knowledge, comprehension, and application of science concepts and insights.

Social Sciences (5 credits)


OUTCOME: Use social science theories and methods to reason, communicate, apply insights, solve problems, and to develop a critical understanding of the diversity and interdependence of peoples and cultures.

OUTCOMES:​

  1. Build and maintain websites.
  2. Research, assess, and appropriately apply updated emerging technology to support websites as needed in industry.
  3. Work with management, development teams, or stakeholders to create websites.
  4. Comply with the ethics related to the use of copyrighted materials and intellectual property rights.
  5. Demonstrate an entrepreneurial approach to website/page development.
  6. Describe, create, and implement databases technologies relative to website development and maintenance.
  7. Analyze, implement, and apply the systems development lifecycle (SDLC) methods and tools to meet the website development needs of a business.

Note: The Career and College Success course should be completed within the first two quarters. Students who transfer in 30 or more college-level credits with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher may be exempt from the Career and College Success course; see faculty advisor.

The program code for this degree is 507F. For financial aid, advising, and other reasons, students should work with their advisor to ensure that this code is properly recorded on their academic record.

  • Entry Requirements Students entering this program will need to contact Enrollment Services and take both the English and Math placement tests. Students should bring the results of these tests to their first advising appointment with a CIS advisor for proper placement into the program. In addition, some CIS certificates and degrees begin at an advanced level and are designed for students already in the IT field. Students entering these programs may complete a portfolio of prior learning by taking CIS 116. The portfolio will be used to waive entry level courses and place students in the appropriate advanced courses. Please see a CIS faculty advisor for more information.
  • Transfer Admission Requirements: This degree is a professioonal-technical degree with a core of general education courses commonly associated in transfer. In general, professional technical degrees are not designed for transfer to other colleges or universities. This degree will articulate to Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degrees, such as the BAS in Application Development and Software Development or related degrees at Edmonds College and other community colleges throughout the state of Washington. All students who intend to transfer should talk with an advisor to review specific admission requirements. Students must have a 2.5 minimum cumulative grade point average to be considered for admission to this program.

Associate in Applied Science-Transfer General Information


Program of Study Outcomes Edmonds College’s four General Education Outcomes­ (Communicate, Act Responsibly, Reason, and Explore) are promoted throughout the college’s programs. Instructional programs of 45 credits or more foster learning in all four General Education Outcomes.

Student achievement is assessed in the general and program specific outcomes via the courses and course objectives that align with those outcomes. More information about program outcomes and course objectives can be found on the Using Program Requirement Sheets  page.

Credit/Grade Requirements A minimum of 30 credits or one-third of the required college level (100-level or above) credits, whichever is less, must be earned at Edmonds College. Students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in all college level courses.

Students Are Advised To:

  • Plan your schedule several quarters in advance in order to accommodate courses that are offered only once or twice a year;
  • Review the college catalog for required course prerequisites and include these in schedule planning;
  • Communicate with an academic advisor and/or a faculty advisor; and
  • At least three quarters before you plan to graduate, contact any college(s) where you have earned credits and have your official transcript(s) sent to Edmonds College. Then, submit an Evaluation Request - Transfer Credits Form (available in Enrollment Services) to activate the process of transferring credits to Edmonds College.   

Graduation Application A completed Graduation Application form must be submitted online by the 10th day of the quarter in which the student expects to graduate. Note: Applications for summer quarter are due by the 8th day of the quarter.

Transferring to Another University or College

  • Admission application deadlines vary, students must meet the deadline for the university or college to which they plan to apply for admission to transfer.
  • Consultation with the appropriate department or an advisor at the intended transfer school is highly recommended.
