Program Description The Occupational Safety and Health Certificate was developed as a pathway for students enrolled in the Occupational Safety and Health Apprenticeship Program or for students interested in broadening their professional skills and knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health field. This certificate requires successful completion of a minimum of 43 credits as outlined.

Program Requirements (43 credits)
OUTCOMES: - Apply federal and state occupational safety and health standards to identify potential hazards to workers, property, the environment, and the public; then design protocols and/or practices to minimize the hazards and avoid accidents.
- Identify sources of exposure and/or contamination. Collect data on work environments for ongoing analysis that may predict risks and hazards.
- Develop controls with the intent of preventing diseases and/or injury caused by chemical, radiological, biological, and the physical aspects of the occupational environment, while also considering ergonomic factors.
- Communicate with workers and management through writing, presentations, and training about all the aspects surrounding workplace and/or occupational risk and hazards. Train organizational personnel on compliance requirements with federal and state safety guidelines. The objective of this communication should strive to go beyond basic communications and regulatory requirements so that it promotes a safety culture within all the members of an organization.
- Develop emergency response plans that can be used to prevent and/or mitigate incidents and accidents, assist organizational members after such incidents, and promote corrective action to prevent similar incidents.
- Develop methods to investigate and document occupational incidents and accidents. Formulate methods to review investigations and present and select preventative measures to prevent recurrence. Ensure record keeping meets regulatory requirements.
- Utilize basic quantitative skills to design and implement legally required safety and health records and maintain safety metrics.
Program Notes
The program code for this certificate is OSHOHC20. For financial aid, advising, and other reasons, students should work with their advisor to ensure that this code is properly recorded on their academic record. - Some courses are offered only once a year. Students are strongly encouraged to consult with the faculty advisor to assist in planning your academic schedule.
- The Career and College Success course should be completed within the first two quarters. Students who transfer in 30 or more college-level credits with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher may be exempt from the Career and College Success course; see faculty advisor.

Credit/Grade Requirements A minimum of 30 credits or one-third of the required college-level (100-level or above) credits, whichever is less, must be earned at Edmonds College. Students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in all college-level courses.

Students Are Advised To:
- Plan their schedule several quarters in advance in order to accommodate courses that are offered only once or twice a year;
- Review the college catalog for required course prerequisites and include these in schedule planning; and
- Communicate with an academic advisor and/or a faculty advisor.
Graduation Application A completed Graduation Application form must be submitted online by the 10th day of the quarter in which the student expects to graduate. Note: Applications for summer quarter are due by the 8th day of the quarter.
