General Admissions
In accordance with WAC 131-12-010, any applicant applying for admission to Edmonds Community College shall be admitted when, as determined by the Chief Admissions Officer, or other designee, such applicant:
- is competent to benefit from course offerings of the College, and
- would not, by his or her presence or conduct, create a disruptive atmosphere within the College inconsistent with the purposes of the institution, and
- is eighteen (18) years of age or older, or
- is a high school graduate (or GED equivalent).
Underage Applications
Special Program Applicants
Special programs, also referred to as student enrollment options programs under WAC 131-12-010, and International Student programs, may allow applicants under the age of 18 to be admitted to Edmonds Community College. These applicants are governed under the rules and regulations of the following programs:
- Running Start – Juniors or seniors in high school are eligible and must contact their high school counselor or the Running Start Office for specific application criteria.
- Adult Education Program – Students age 16 and over who meet the provisions of Title III of the Adult Education Act may enroll in certain Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes and Adult High School provided they demonstrate measurable academic progress and an ability to benefit.
- EdCAP and Other Enrollment Options Programs – Students who participate in programs that fall under the guidelines of agreements or contracts between local school districts and Edmonds Community College may enroll. Applicants must contact the program office to obtain specific application criteria.
- International Program—Underage international students must follow the admission and eligibility requirements set forth by the International Student Services department.
Other Underage Applicants
Applicants Ages 16 and 17
High school students, including home schooled students, or other applicants ages 16 or 17 who do not have a high school diploma or GED, may apply to Edmonds Community College once the following conditions have been met:
- Obtain a permission form or letter from their home high school or district office giving permission to take classes at Edmonds Community College.
- Complete the College’s application process, including assessment testing when appropriate.
- Complete the Underage Application Request form.
- Complete steps 1-3 above by the first day of the quarter in which enrollment is desired.
Underage applicants who do not apply under the special programs option, and who do not have a high school diploma or GED, are required to register during open enrollment.
Applicants Under the Age of 16
Applicants under the age of 16 who do not have a high school diploma or GED are not allowed to enroll for classes at Edmonds Community College. Exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis by the Chief Admissions Officer, or other designee, once the following conditions have been met:
- The parent or guardian must submit a letter describing the reason an exception should be made.
- The parent or guardian and the applicant must meet with the Chief Admissions Officer, or other designee.
- Complete requirements 1-4 listed under Applicants Ages 16 and 17.
Underage applicants who do not apply under the special programs option, and who do not have a high school diploma or GED, are required to register during open enrollment.
