Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs) Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Outline the general history of the English language.
- Describe how new words are borrowed or developed for varied purposes, including informal conversation, civic discourse, scientific naming, etc.
- Describe the functions of prefixes, roots, and suffixes, and apply them to create meaning.
- Describe the basic principles of etymology, cross-cultural borrowing, and other means of language assimilation and development.
