Analysis, including psychological analysis, of the narrative patterns, conventions and traditions of film noir and other genres from the perspective of archetypal psychology.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the basic elements of various film genres (film noir, the Western, sci-fi, musicals, thrillers, etc.) and their particular vocabulary (narrative, mise en scene, cinematography, acting, editing, sound). [REASON]
- Analyze film techniques, dramatic and literary qualities, and underlying themes, archetypes, and mythologies. [REASON]
