NURS 123 - Health Assessment



3.0 Credits
Provides an introduction to client assessment techniques with emphasis on wellness throughout the lifespan. Teaches systems approach for obtaining a health history and performing a physical exam as well as use of nursing process. Includes lab practice for assessment skills. Permit code required. Prerequisite: NURS 114, NURS 115, and NURS 118. Corequisite NURS 124 and NURS 125.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the use of effective communication techniques and interview skills to obtain a health history. [COMMUNICATE]
  2. Employ methods and techniques used in physical examination correctly and efficiently. [ACT]

  4. Conduct a complete head-to-toe physical exam on a well adult. [ACT]
  5. Recognize abnormal findings and age related changes in the physical exam. [REASON]
  6. Organize and document data legibly and efficiently using correct medical terminology. [REASON]
  7. Apply critical thinking skills to analyze client and case study data and identify nursing diagnoses. [REASON]
