Associate in General Studies - Non-Transfer Degree

Program Description The purpose of this degree is to grant academic recognition for an individually designed program of 90 credits of coursework. This coursework is developed in consultation with an adviser to meet the vocational, educational or personal needs of the individual. Note: degree may include up to 15 credits below level 100.

This degree is designed for students not planning to transfer to a four-year institution. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and a minimum of 30 credits taken at Edmonds CC are required.

Cultural Diversity Requirement All students earning a degree or certificate of 45 credits or more must meet a cultural diversity (CD) requirement by taking at least five (5) credits of CD courses. Students Are Advised To

  • Plan their schedule several quarters in advance in order to accommodate courses that are offered only once or twice a year,
  • Review the college catalog for required course prerequisites and include these in schedule planning,
  • Communicate with an academic adviser, and
  • Submit an Evaluation Request - Transfer Credits Form (available in Enrollment Services) to activate the process of transferring credits to Edmonds CC.

Note: Because of the individual nature of this degree, early consultation with an adviser is necessary for effective planning. See Enrollment Services for recommended advisers.

Graduation Application A completed Graduation Application form must be submitted online by the 10th day of the quarter in which the student expects to graduate. Note: Applications for summer quarter are due by the 8th day of the quarter.

General Education Requirements (18 credits)


 Five credits in this area must be designated “CD: Cultural Diversity.”

Communication Skills (10 credits)


OUTCOME: Write in clear, effective ways, adapted to audience, context, and purpose. 

Quantitative Analysis or Symbolic Reasoning (5 credits)


OUTCOME: Apply mathematical, quantitative, or symbolic models to solve problems, draw inferences, or support conclusions appropriate to an individual discipline. 

Health and Physical Education (3 credits)


OUTCOME: Demonstrate knowledge and skills in one of these areas: emergency care, contemporary health, principles of lifelong fitness, or athletic performance and teamwork.

Note: You may choose any combination of PE courses.

Cultural Diversity Requirement


OUTCOME: Apply multiple perspectives when examining cultural differences and interacting in multicultural settings.

Humanities (5 credits)


OUTCOME: Use Humanities-based methods to reason, communicate, make meaning, solve problems and/or create or perform cultural works for diverse audiences and purposes.

OUTCOME: Use scientific and mathematical methods, modes of inquiry, and terminology to demonstrate knowledge, comprehension, and application of science concepts and insights.

Social Sciences (5 credits)


OUTCOME: Use Social Science theories and methods to reason, communicate, apply insights, solve problems, and to develop a critical understanding of the diversity and interdependence of peoples and cultures.

General Electives (to total 90 credits)


It is recommended but not required that students include 30 credits of related course work in a major area as part of their electives. Electives selection may be from Distribution Requirements, professional-technical departments, or other credited college course work.
