Engineering Technology - Robotics and Electronics Associate of Technical Arts Degree

Program Description The Robotics and Electronics Associate of Technical Arts (ATA) Degree program trains students to enter the job market as electronics technicians, electromechanical technicians, field service technicians, and manufacturing technicians. The training is generic and is applicable to many fields such as aerospace, electronics manufacturing, medical equipment, and telecommunications. This program trains students in electronic circuit analysis; functional testing; and troubleshooting of complex linear, digital, and microprocessor/microcontroller based systems. This training makes extensive use of practical, hands on learning. Whenever possible, we model real world applications so our graduates are prepared for the work they will find.

This program takes two academic years to complete. Students typically enter in fall quarter unless they have prior electronics training. Students should have taken high school algebra, have strong reading skills, and have an aptitude for solving technical problems. Students who complete just the first year of this program are eligible for the Basic Electronics Certificate .

Credit/Grade Requirements This ATA degree is awarded upon a student’s completion of a minimum of 90 credits as outlined. A minimum of 30 credits or one-third, whichever is less, of the required credits must have been received from Edmonds CC. Students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 within the program requirements.

Cultural Diversity Requirement All students earning a degree or certificate of 45 credits or more must meet a cultural diversity (CD) requirement by taking at least five (5) credits of CD courses. High School Transition Program Students (Tech Prep, College in the High School, and Running Start) It is recommended that high school students who have earned college credit through dual credit programs meet with a college adviser.

Students Are Advised To

  • Plan their schedule several quarters in advance in order to accommodate courses that are offered only once or twice a year,
  • Review the college catalog for required course prerequisites and include these in schedule planning,
  • Communicate with an academic adviser, and
  • Submit an Evaluation Request - Transfer Credits Form (available in Enrollment Services) to activate the process of transferring credits to Edmonds CC.

Graduation Application A completed Graduation Application form must be submitted online by the 10th day of the quarter in which the student expects to graduate. Note: Applications for summer quarter are due by the 8th day of the quarter.

CWU Transfer This ATA degree transfers directly to Central Washington University’s Bachelors in Information Technology and Administrative Management on the Edmonds Community College campus.   • Use independent research to learn about new technology and equipment.
  • Analyze, test, and troubleshoot complex electronic circuits using industry standard test equipment.
  • Use simulation software to model circuits and predict circuit operation.
  • Write, run, and debug diagnostic test programs for service and repair.
  • Communicate technical information effectively in writing.
  • Apply industry standard methods to the replacement of parts on a circuit board.

Career Management (1 credit)


OUTCOME: Demonstrate the ability to research employment opportunities, prepare an effective employment package, and present oneself positively in a job interview.
