Horticulture - Landscape Horticulture Certificate

Program Description The Landscape Horticulture Certificate provides students with a solid foundation of technical knowledge and hands on skills in the field of landscape horticulture. Graduates pursue entry level positions in landscape management and installation.

Credit/Grade Requirements This certificate requires successful completion of a minimum of 43 credits as outlined. A minimum of 30 credits or one-third of the required credits, whichever is less, must be earned at Edmonds CC. Students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in all college level courses.

Students are advised to

  • Contact Enrollment Services to make an advising appointment and take the ACCUPLACER tests. Placement into BRDGE 093  or higher, as well as MATH 080  or higher is strongly recommended and may be required for some courses;
  • Plan their schedule several quarters in advance in order to accommodate courses that are offered only once or twice a year, or those that may alternate between day and evening offerings from year to year;
  • Review the college catalog for required course prerequisites and include these in schedule planning; and
  • Meet quarterly with an adviser from the horticulture faculty to assure graduation as planned.

Graduation Application A completed Graduation Application form must be submitted online by the 10th day of the quarter in which the student expects to graduate. Note: Applications for summer quarter are due by the 8th day of the quarter.

Program Requirements (43 credits)


OUTCOMES:

  • Describe and demonstrate the safe and efficient use of landscape tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Identify common landscape plants for the Pacific Northwest and their cultural needs.
  • Compare and contrast basic theories, concepts, and terminology of plant science in order to apply sustainable horticulture practices and techniques
  • Describe plant problems, diagnosis, and management options.
  • Compare and contrast a variety of career options in horticulture.

**Placement into MATH 080  or higher is required or a minimum math prerequisite of MATH 060  Introduction to Algebra or BUS 130  Business Math with a grade of 2.0 or higher.
