Energy Management - Core Certificate of Completion


PGM Code - 674A

Program Description The Energy Management Department features many short certificates. These certificates are made up of clusters of related courses that can prepare students for specific work related job functions.

The Energy Management Core Certificate of Completion is a prerequisite to the specialized certificates of completion listed as follows:

You must complete the Energy Management Core Certificate of Completion before completing the certificates of completions listed above.

Credit/Grade Requirements This certificate of completion requires successful completion of a minimum of 17 credits as outlined. All credits must be earned at Edmonds CC. Students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in all college level courses.

Certificates of Completion (COCs) are not eligible for financial aid; however, some COCs may be eligible for veteran’s benefits. If interested in this COC, please inquire at your instructional department or academic advising.

Students Are Advised To

  • Plan their schedule several quarters in advance in order to accommodate courses that are offered only once or twice a year,
  • Review the college catalog for required course prerequisites and include these in schedule planning,
  • Communicate with an academic adviser, and
  • Submit an Evaluation Request - Transfer Credits Form (available in Enrollment Services) to activate the process of transferring credits to Edmonds CC.

Graduation Application A completed Graduation Application form must be submitted online by the 10th day of the quarter in which the student expects to graduate. Note: Applications for summer quarter are due by the 8th day of the quarter.

Program Requirements (17 credits)


OUTCOMES:

  • Compare and contrast energy management practices and opportunities, including monitoring.
  • Identify and describe the basic concepts underlying sustainability.
  • Identify sources of energy.
  • Perform basic energy use conversions; analyze and discuss results.
  • Determine the financial consequences of various energy conservation measures.
  • Describe and identify the building envelope or shell; analyze the air, thermal, water, and vapor barriers as to how they interact in the whole building approach to improve energy efficiency and maintain health and safety standards.
  • Describe how basic heating, cooling, and lighting systems use energy and identify basic strategies for reducing use.
  • Communicate energy management practices using word processing, spreadsheet programs, and images in written and oral format.
  • Perform tasks assigned both independently and in group settings.
