Associate in Biology - Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA)

PGM Code – CLBI

Program Description The Biology Direct Transfer Agreement degree consists of a minimum of 98.5 quarter credits as outlined. This pathway is applicable to students planning to prepare for upper division bachelor’s degree majors in biology and is designed for students wishing to transfer to Central Washington University, Eastern Washington University, The Evergreen State College, University of Washington, Washington State University, Western Washington University, Saint Martin’s University, Seattle University, and Whitworth University.

Common Course Numbering Please refer to www.edcc.edu/ccn for more information.

Credit/Grade Requirements Students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 in all college level courses and earn at least 30 college level (100 level or above) credits at Edmonds CC. At some four-year colleges, a 2.0 is not sufficient for admission into the major.

Intermediate Algebra This requirement may be satisfied by completion of two years of high school algebra, completion of Intermediate Algebra (MATH 090 ) with a grade of 2.0 or higher or placement into college level math. Only the University of Washington retains this requirement, but all baccalaureate institutions in the state of Washington accepting the DTA (including UW) require successful completion of college level math (100-level or above) or PHIL& 120  (see “Quantitative Analysis or Symbolic Reasoning” below). PHIL& 120 and all college level math courses at Edmonds CC currently require completion of Intermediate Algebra (MATH 090) with a grade of 2.0 or higher or placement into college level math. Consult with an advisor early in your program planning to avoid errors in math course selection.

Cultural Diversity Requirement All students earning a degree or certificate of 45 credits or more must meet a cultural diversity (CD) requirement by taking at least five (5) credits of CD courses. To learn more, go to Academic Information – Cultural Diversity Requirement  in the online academic catalog.

Students are advised to

  • Consult with a science faculty adviser quarterly
  • Depending on the type of biology degree and long-term academic goals, some students may be best advised to complete the Associate of Science Track 1 degree instead of this Associate of Arts in Biology. Consult with a faculty adviser to determine which degree best suites your goals.
  • Admission application deadlines vary; students must meet the deadline for the university or universities to which they plan to apply for transfer admission
  • Before transferring to a four-year institution, you should consult with the appropriate department at the intended transfer school for university specific requirements that are not prerequisites to admission to the Biology major but will need to be completed prior to graduation
  • Certain schools may have additional university specific requirements for admission to the institution that are not prerequisites and include these in schedule planning
  • At least three quarters before you plan to graduate, contact any college(s) where you have earned credits and have your official transcript(s) sent to Edmonds CC
  • Submit an Evaluation Request–Transfer Credits Form (available in Enrollment Services) to activate the process of transferring credits to Edmonds CC
  • For more information or to schedule an advising appointment, call 425.640.1458

Graduation Application A completed Graduation Application form must be submitted online by the 10th day of the quarter in which the student expects to graduate. Note: Applications for summer quarter are due by the 8th day of the quarter.
