AHE 147 - Clinical Lab Assistant Externship

Practical experience in the role of Clinical Laboratory Assistant. Students will be supervised by instructor and staff at clinical sites. Prerequisite: AHE146. Permit code required.

Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Apply knowledge of specimen collection and set up procedures. [REASON]
Apply knowledge of safety measures, infection control and first aid for clinical laboratory. [REASON]
Evaluate, document, and apply quality control procedures. [REASON]
Identify sources of error and corrective actions. [REASON]
Apply proper labeling, documentation methods, and preparation for specimen transport. [ACT]
Describe the laboratory policies and procedures related to their clinical site. [REASON]
Demonstrate the ability to communicate (verbally and non-verbally) effectively and appropriately with both clients and team members in the workplace. [EXPLORE]
Demonstrate a professional and positive attitude in the workplace and realize (through journals) the importance of professional development by pursuing and maintaining certification. [REASON]
