ENGR& 204 - Electrical Circuits 5.0 Credits Introduction to electrical engineering. Basic circuit and systems concepts. Resistors, sources, capacitors, inductors, and operational amplifiers. Solutions of first- and second-order linear differential equations associated with basic circuit forms (was ENGR 215). Prerequisite: MATH& 152 (was MATH 152) and PHYS& 223 (was PHYS 202) each with a grade of 2.0 or higher.
Course Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Solve electric circuits using node and mesh analysis. [REASON]
- Apply Thevenin’s and Norton’s theorems to circuit analysis. [REASON]
- Articulate the basic laws of capacitors and inductors. [REASON]
- Demonstrate the use of differential equations in the analysis of resistance-inductance-capacitance (RLC) circuits. [REASON]
- Describe an ideal operational amplifier (op amp) and use it in circuits. [REASON]
- Differentiate between applications using linear and nonlinear resistors and diodes. [REASON]
- Solve first-order and second-order switched circuits. [REASON]
- Analyze single- and three-phase sinusoidal steady state circuits. [REASON]
