PHYS& 221 - Engineering Physics I 4.0 Credits Physics for people with an interest in becoming scientists or engineers. Topics covered will be kinematics, dynamics, momentum and energy. Four hours of lecture and two hours of lab weekly (was PHYS 201). S/U grade option. Prerequisite: MATH& 151 (was MATH 151) and ENGL& 101 (was ENGL 105), each with a grade of 2.0 or higher.
Course Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding at the majors-level of the basic principles of Newtonian dynamics, kinematics, energy and momentum. [REASON]
- Develop a clear understanding of the scientific method and its application to these principles. [REASON]
- Apply quantitative measures to situations involving these principles and develop a strong facility for working problems based on these principles. [REASON]
- Analyze a physical system to decide what information and principles are relevant to understanding the behavior of the systems. [REASON]
- Clearly communicate fundamental knowledge particular to physics with their peers using appropriate vocabulary. [COMMUNICATE]
