  • Admission Requirements to a University or College: Admission application deadlines vary. Students must meet the deadline for the university or college to which they plan to apply for admission to transfer. For admission to nursing as a major, it is critical to note that grade point average requirements vary and admission is competitive. Certain schools may have additional “university-specific” requirements that are not prerequisites to admission to the Nursing major but will have to be completed prior to graduation and/or commencement of nursing courses. Certain schools may have additional “university-specific” requirements for admission to the institution that are not prerequisites specifically identified in the requirements for the Associate in Pre-Nursing degree.
    • The UW Seattle Nursing Program requires two math courses: “one statistics course and one college-level math course or one philosophy logics course.”
  • Contact with advisors from individual schools for institutional requirements is highly recommended. Students completing this degree who have also met specific institutional grade point average requirements and/or any university-specific requirements will be regarded as having the minimum preparation for consideration for admission to a Bachelor of Science Nursing program to the colleges and universities listed in the program description.

*General Education Requirements Notes

  • Quantitative Analysis/Symbolic Reasoning Skills: Students who plan to attend University of Washington (Seattle) must also take MATH 140, MATH& 141, or PHIL& 120. Students who plan to attend Seattle University must also complete MATH 140 or MATH& 141.
  • Cultural Diversity Skills: If a CD designated course is not specified as a requirement for this degree, choose a course from the approved Cultural Diversity course list to meet this requirement. A CD designated may also meet Distribution or Elective requirements.

**Distribution Requirements Notes

  • Humanities: Complete the required Communication Studies course and select 10 additional credits with no more than 10 credits being from a single department. A maximum of five (5) credits in Performance/Skills courses and five (5) credits in foreign language at or above the 100 level may be applied. Students who plan to attend the University of Washington should not select Journalism courses.
  • Social Sciences: The remaining 5 credits of Social Sciences (after PSYC& 100 and PSYC& 200) must have a CD designation; therefore, PHIL& 101 would count as an elective, not a social science. SOC 150 is not accepted by Everett’s Nursing Program, please consult an advisor.

***Program Electives Note

  • Students are encouraged to speak to an advisor to determine if additional social science courses are preferred by their intended transfer institution.
  • Any of the optional electives, or any other college level courses, may be used to complete a total of 90 credits for the degree. Consulation with an advisor is recommended. Courses commonly chosen include the problem solving classes BIOL 210, 251, 252, and 261 associated with the core BIOL sequence; BIOL 255 for a journal club on a biology or health topic of interest; HLTH 105 for emergency response and CPR training and CNA requirements; NURS 101, NURS 102, and NURS 103 for CNA requirements; AHE 116 for an introduction to healthcare; HCA 104 (formerly BSTEC 104) for medical terminology; and BIOL 293 for students interested in conducting undergraduate research.
  • NURS 101 & NURS 102 was formerly AHE 162 and NURS 103 was formerly AHE 164. These courses may be substituted for CNA requirements.

****Intermediate Algebra Notes

  • Students intending to transfer to Seattle University need to complete an additional college level algebra or pre-calculus class, which can be satisfied with MATH 140. University of Washington requires proof of “Intermediate Algebra proficiency” for entering transfer students with less than 40 credits. This requirement may be satisfied by either completion of two years of high school algebra or by completion of Intermediate Algebra (MATH 97) with a grade of 2.0 or higher. Only the University of Washington retains this Intermediate Algebra requirement. However, all baccalaureate institutions in the state of Washington accepting the DTA (including UW) require successful completion of college level math (100-level or above) or PHIL& 120 (see “Quantitative Analysis/Symbolic Reasoning Skills”). It must be noted that PHIL& 120 and some college level math courses at Edmonds CC have a prerequisite of only Essentials of Intermediate Algebra (MATH 87) with a grade of 2.0 or higher. Thus, one can take a college level math class without satisfying the University of Washington’s Intermediate Algebra proficiency requirement. Consult with an advisor early in your program planning to avoid errors in math course selection.
