The Nursery/Greenhouse ATA provides students with a solid foundation in Ornamental Horticulture along with special knowledge and skills in plant production. Completion of the Nursery/Greenhouse degree prepares students for careers in plant propagation, nursery and greenhouse operation, production, and management.
Credit/Grade Requirements This ATA degree requires successful completion of a minimum of 96 credits as outlined. A minimum of 30 credits or one-third of the required credits, whichever is less, must be earned at Edmonds Community College. Students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in all college-level courses.
Previously Earned Credit To transfer horticulture or other college credits, students must request an evaluation of their college transcripts through the Enrollment Services office. This should be done during your first quarter at Edmonds CC. Students wishing to seek a waiver of credit requirements should obtain a Petition of Waiver form from the Enrollment Services office. Other curriculum modifications based on work or other special experiences should be discussed with your horticulture adviser.
Cultural Diversity Requirement All students earning degrees and certificates of 45 credits or more must meet a cultural diversity (CD) requirement by completing courses marked as “CD” on the requirement sheet and/or “Meets Cultural Diversity Requirement” in the quarterly class schedule. Those courses may also be used to fulfill other requirements of the degree or certificate.
Graduation Application A completed Graduation Application form must be submitted to Enrollment Services by the 10th day of the quarter in which the student expects to graduate. Forms are available online or at Enrollment Services located in Lynnwood Hall.
Students are advised to:
- Contact Enrollment Services to make an advising appointment and take the ACCUPLACER tests. Placement into BRDGE 093 or higher, as well as MATH 080 or higher is strongly recommended and may be required for some courses;
- Plan their schedule several quarters in advance in order to accommodate courses that are offered only once or twice a year, or those that may alternate between day and evening offerings from year to year;
- Review the college catalog for required course prerequisites and include these in schedule planning; and
- Meet quarterly with an adviser from the horticulture faculty to assure graduation as planned.
