The Adult Basic Education Program at Edmonds Community College provides adult students, ages 16 and older, who do not have a secondary credential, with an opportunity to earn high school equivalency by preparing for and earning a GED certificate in a college environment. The GED credential is awarded through the GED Testing Service and is administered by the Washington State Community and Technical College Office of Adult Literacy. Students have the option and support to earn short-term certificates that lead to living wage jobs and higher level education and degrees while completing their GED.

Entry Requirements: Students should attend a GED orientation. During the orientation, students receive an overview of the GED program at Edmonds Community College, information about the GED test and requirements, assessments in reading and math, and information about college and career opportunities at Edmonds Community College. Students must meet minimum reading requirements to enroll in GED preparation classes. Following an orientation, students meet one-on-one with an adviser to register for classes.

When to apply? Students may begin GED preparation classes fall, winter, spring, or summer quarters. Classes begin at the beginning of a quarter and at mid-quarter start dates. Day, evening, and online classes are offered.

Students are advised to:

  • Attend orientation and advising prior to quarter start dates,
  • Meet regularly with their GED case manager for planning and support, and
  • Utilize campus resources.
