BUS& 201 - Business Law
5.0 Credits Legal institutions and processes in a business society; law as a system of social thought, behavior and resolution. Meets business administration transfer requirements for most institutions. Recommended placement in ENGL 99. Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs) Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify and describe the basic principles of American law, its historical development, judicial process, and the role of law in a complex social system, with emphasis on the American legal system and its institutions.
- Use the Issue, Rule, Analysis, and Conclusion (IRAC) method to analyze fact patterns, apply appropriate vocabulary and substantive legal principles; and analyze, compare, and evaluate the logic, reasoning, and arguments of other students.
- Collaborate with a team to identify, analyze, and debate the applicable legal issues in a case or proposed statute, and deliver findings/results in a live class presentation.
- Identify and describe the basic principles of major business law subjects, such as a constitutional authority to regulate business; common law contracts; criminal law and business; international law issues; the Uniform Commercial Code; agency and employment; business associations; real and individual property and business-related torts and crimes.
- Identify and describe approaches to business ethics, social responsibility, and justice, and demonstrate the ability, when confronted with an ethical dilemma, to weigh the arguments for alternative courses of action, and logically and persuasively argue for a particular course of conduct.
