FLED 123 - Parenting Education and Preschool Experience (24-36 months)

Community based parenting education course for caregivers of children aged 24 to 36 months, combining lecture, discussion, and lab/practicum experience. Practicum focuses on developmentally appropriate practice within college affiliated preschools. Students gain confidence, develop resiliency, and utilize social connections to develop skills for positive adult-child interaction. Students engage in a process of self-reflection and self-assessment through class activities and instructor feedback.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Observe and analyze the impact of a play based curriculum in children, specifically in independence skills and autonomous choice
Identify and evaluate developmental milestones
Examine the importance of adult’s self-regulation skills for co-regulation in children as a way to model self-awareness and self-management
Contextualize children’s motivation and behavior within developmental growth
Observe, interpret, and reflect on adult-child interactions, and develop positive guidance strategies for use in the classroom and at home
